The Shadow of the Crescent

”Islam is a revolutionary ideology, a revolutionary program to alter the social order of the World, and rebuild it in conformity with its own tenets and ideals”.

This is a direct quote from Islamic Scholar Abu Ala Mandudi. In another age, the same could be said concerning Christianity, though clearly the methods would differ greatly. Truly Christianity did indeed change the world, altering the path of Roman Emperors and a state suffering from moral decay on the verge of social collapse. Never before did the world know a belief system where slave and master could be equals. Christianity expounded on the golden rule of the ancient Greeks to treat others the way you wish to be treated. ” This axiom is purely subjective. In the teaching of Christ we see something never before seen. We learn a new Commandment: “to love one another”. And further our Saviour teaches us that one can have no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends.
We know from history that this commandment was not always followed and less scrupulous men even went so far as to abuse the basic ideals of Christianity.

There is something that we must always remember, Christianity is not a mere philosophy or political System. It is not only a way of life it is THE WAY to life! Some recently have accused Christians of taking their faith for granted. This may be the case for the casual believer, we all know the type, the Sunday morning variety who do not fully understand that to follow Christ means walking in His footsteps each and everyday.

The reality is that many around us this day have grown too comfortable and have lost the basic precepts of Christianity: prayer, chastity, patience, temperance, longsuffering, humility, love of neighbor and love of God. Clearly the heart of man has grown cold. The love of God and fellow man has been replaced with the love of self and worldly pursuits. We are quickly headed for a time when the church will no longer be taken for granted – it will become a victim of our indifference. The true lovers of God are saddened with these events though our tears are mingled with joy in remembrance of our Lord’s words that He will be with us, even unto the end of the ages.

Let Thy mercy O Lord be upon us according as we have hoped in Thee.

Beloved Christians may we never lose hope!
