Our precious faith is like none other, teaching us that God has a special redemptive plan for us. He has called us to be Sons. Saint Leo, in his homily on the Nativity of our Lord teaches us:
Let us, therefore, give thanks, dearly Beloved, to God the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit; Who, because of the exceeding great love, wherein He has loved us, has had compassion on us. And even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together in Christ (Eph. ii. 5), that in Him we might be a new creature, and a new clay. Let us strip ourselves of the old man with his deeds’, for being made partakers of the Birth of Christ, let us renounce the deeds of the flesh (Col. iii. 9).
Acknowledge, O Christian, the dignity that is yours! Being made a partaker of the divine nature, do not by an unworthy manner of living fall back into your former abjectness of life.
This is the great plan of Salvation, to which each year at this time of Advent, we are witnesses. Through our dearest and most-merciful Christ, we are raised to a new dignity and we are deified. The curse of death no longer fetters the soul and no longer are we held captive to the flesh for we are a new creature! Christ has cleansed our race through His precious Incarnation, Passion, and glorious Ascension.
Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace and goodwill to men.
