Acts 2:1-11

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

In the days of old, man became proud and attempted to ascend into the heavens by a tower. Nimrod the great hunter gathered men from the whole Earth to erect a great edifice to stretch into the heavens. Man was still in his infancy and claimed, through his pride, that he could accomplish great things, even to the ascent into the heavens.

With the sound of a great and mighty wind, the Most-high God cast them into disarray and confounded their language. And thus mankind spread throughout the Earth, one nation unable to speak to another. Man was not to ascend into the heavens. This was not in his power nor was it blessed by God.

After the Ascension of the Lord, mankind was once again raised up to the heavens when the Saviour sat at the Right-hand in the glory of God the Father. The flesh of humanity has been restored. And so it was the fulfillment, the calling back of all the nations, that was accomplished on that wondrous day of Pentecost. This was the day in which the Holy Spirit called all men back into unity. Through the gift of speech with great power and understanding, the Apostles were able to speak with men from all the nations.

The sacred hymnody of the Church reaffirms this:

Today all the nations beheld strange things in the city of David, when the Holy Spirit descended in fiery tongues, as the Luke the herald of things divine, declared; for he said: As the Disciples of Christ were gathered together, there came a sound as of a mighty wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting; and all began to articulate strange and foreign words, doctrines strange and new, strange and new teachings of the Holy Trinity.

Man was now growing-up. The Apostles, enlightened and illumined by the Holy Spirit, were sent forth to preach God, the Holy Trinity, to the nations. It was now possible for man to enter into a mystical union – a personal relationship with God.

Come, o ye peoples, let us worship the Godhead of three Hypostasis: the Son in the Father, with the Holy Spirit; for the Father timelessly begat the Son, Who is co-eternal and of one throne; and the Holy Spirit is in the Father, glorified with the Son; one Might, one Essence, one Godhead, Which we all worship saying: Holy God, Who didst create all things through the Son, with the co-operation of the Holy Spirit. Holy Mighty, through Whom we have known the Father, and through Whom the Holy Spirit came into the world. Holy Immortal, the Comforting Spirit, Who proceeds from the Father and restest in the Son. O Holy Trinity, our God, glory be to Thee.

Now are the hidden things made known for God has poured out His Spirit on all flesh! Our sons and daughters will prophesy; you men shall see visions; and our old men shall dream dreams!
